Find out more about Emma and her work as a successful blogger in our interview below:
HD: What inspired you to set up @What_Emma_Did_?
Emma: “I studied fashion journalism at University and was writing a lot of freelance articles for online publications. I set my blog up in January 2010 originally as a place to record my work and feature my articles on my website. I then started filling my time posting about brands and products I was loving too, and the events I was attending due to my fashion journalism, and it soon turned into a fashion blog. As I am regularly involved with beauty, travel, food and general lifestyle aspects, the blog soon launched into a lifestyle portal.”
HD: What are your top 3 current restaurants/pop-ups/gigs/pubs/shops in Manchester?
Emma: “Oooh I have lots! For restaurants, they are San Carlo, Chaophraya and Artisan. I love Italian and Thai – they are my favourite cuisines, and Artisan is in a lovely location with such a unique interior design. For shops, my top 3 are Selfridges (department store for everything!), Affleck’s Palace for quirky finds, and Magma for all art and books.”
HD: What’s the most amazing Manchester experience everyone should try?
Emma: “It’s not the most unique, but going to the Manchester Christmas Markets from November as they are truly stand-out from any other city, and grow every year. Also, heading to the Chill Factor is a great experience for something different and fun to do.”
HD: We’re looking to shed light on Manchester’s hidden gems by shortlisting our very own top 10. Whether activity, food, museum or attraction, what’s the one hidden gem you’d nominate and why?
Emma: “I would put forward Epernay champagne and cocktail bar, tucked away at the side of the Great Northern Warehouse. It is small and cosy with the nicest selection of cocktails, wines and champagnes. It’s glam and luxurious without being too pretentious, and is a perfect place people don’t know about to start a night out. In the summer, you can sip fine champagnes on the balcony too…”
HD: Why do you think you have built such a great Twitter following?
Emma: “I offer my twitter followers a real mix – some days I’m tweeting food and drinks from new eateries and bars, and other days I’m running giveaways and competitions across fashion and beauty. I regularly link to my Instagram, converse in blogger chats, and generally share all the cool events I go to often. I think it’s really important to respond to followers to and make conversation!”
