Sleepwalkers in an ongoing project where six artists use the National Museum as a place of research in which each artist attempted to show the process by which an exhibition idea is conceived, showing the work and ideas in progress.
The artists include: Clodagh Emoe, Jim Ricks, Sean Lynch, Linda Quinlan, Lee Welch and Gavin Murphy. The latter is Dublin-based artist and curator whose recent work includes On Seeing Only Totally New things in collaboration with Atelier David Smith. He is also the recipient of several Arts Council awards and has had residencies at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces in Melbourne.
For the sleepwalker series, Murphy focuses on the history of The Hugh Lane; its collection, acquisitions, exhibitions and how it has changed. The display is a collection of memories, distant and recent, of the museum’s changing history as a space for Irish artists and art lovers to visit and be inspired.
