This valentines day, the Pavilion theatre is proud to announce a special screening of Cinema Paradiso, director Giuseppe Tornatore’s ode to love, friendship and films. In the film, a famous director reminisces about his childhood at the Cinema Paradiso where Alfredo, the projectionist, first ignited his love for film. When the director returns to the Sicilian village he grew up in for the first time in many years he’s reminded of those precious childhood memories, his first love and the losses and regrets of his past. Films, especially great films like Cinema Paradiso, are able to manipulate your perception of reality and alter or affirm your view on life. Cinema Paradiso is an enduring love letter to cinema and its raw emotive power. Don’t miss the chance to take your significant other to see Cinema Paradiso on the big screen and share in a truly wonderful experience. “A classic gem of nostalgia” – The Guardian

Following on from the critical acclaim and by popular demand the Gaiety Theatre is proud to announce the return of John B Keane’s side-splitting play, Moll for three hilarious weeks. Moll, first performed in1971 in Killarney, is a timeless comedy set in a rural presbytery in Kerry. When Canon Pratt and his two curates, Father Brest and Father Loran, lose their housekeeper Ms Bottomly, they must recruit a suitable replacement. They select Ms Maureen Kettle, or Moll as she is affectionately known. Moll is duly appointed as the priest’s housekeeper and becomes an unstoppable force within the parish house. This production of Moll is directed by David Horan and produced by Donal Shiels. Moll stars the exceptional Frank Kelly (Father Jack in Father Ted) as His Lordship The Bishop and Des Keogh (The Love Hungry Farmer by John B. Keane, which played to packed houses in the Gaiety last year) as the smug Canon. Clare Barrett energetically devours the title role of Moll. “Decades before Craggy Island John B Keane had created a trio of priests and matriarchal housekeeper living in sitcom synchronicity” The Sunday Times “Well Judged performance” “Witty dialogue” “Moll is foremost a funny way of being serious” The Sunday Times
LEPER + Chip is the brand new, fast-paced debut play by Lee Coffey. It’s set in today’s inner city Dublin and is made up of a series of interwoven monologues and dialogues between the two protagonists. The play is directed by Karl Shiels and performed by Conall Keating and Amilia Stewart and was first staged at Theatre Upstairs in 2014. The play is a whirlwind of a show, with the themes of love and madness running through its heart. Leopard-coated cougars, a bus full of pensioners, a machete wielding maniac and a Pringle eating whale are all featured and set against the backdrop of contemporary Dublin. Leper + Chip has received plenty of favourable press including write-ups in the Irish Times and the Sunday Independent and garnered comparisons with Terminus and Howie the Rookie by Mark O’Rowe, who’s irreverent, high-octane portrayal of Dublin is a clear inspiration for Coffey’s promising debut play. “Hilarious, fast-paced and deeply heartfelt. A hugely promising first play…” Mark O’Rowe “This breakneck two-hander will smack you upside the head … breathlessly exciting” Peter Crawley, The Irish Times “Leper + Chip is a spectacular writing debut … directed with pretty well faultless precision by Karl Shiels.” Emer O’Kelly, Sunday Independent “Confirmation that there are some very fine young actors on the Irish scene at present” Michael Moffatt, The Irish Mail on Sunday

They are continually pushing boundaries and expanding their repertoire with premieres of new commissions from popular and contemporary British composers. They are about to embark on a tour of Scotland and Ireland and will record a CD in Oxford at the Jacqueline du Pre Music Building. Park Lane Group have supported the quartet extensively on a UK-wide concert tour and a recording on their Classical Label. Other recordings by the Piatti’s have been released on the Linn Records and Champs Hill labels, including their contribution to the complete string quartet works of Felix Mendelssohn (Champs Hill), which was BBC Music Magazine’s Critic’s Choice (September 2014).
